February is the month of love, lust, and all things heart shaped. We shower our loved ones with flowers, chocolates, and fancy dinner dates. However, whatever our ”relationship status” may be, we often forget the essential need to love ourselves.
At the start of 2018, I ran with the idea of intentionally notating the special moments and experiences through out the year; one moment per colored sticky note. A year later, I opened these love notes of my life. Notes that reminded me of magical travel experiences, artistic performances, career moves, and special occasions. These love notes retold my life story in the past year, and overshadowed the difficult times tenfold. It is often our innate response to be flooded by the hard times, rather than find solace in the good.
Before the months end, I invite you to begin your own jar of self-love notes for 2019. Nothing is ”too small” or ”not special enough.” If you find happiness and light in any singular moment, experience or event, write it down! Let the light outshine the darkness.
As my good friend Albus Dumbledore said, “Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, when one only remembers to turn on the light.”
